Morning Book Readings
The morning book readings can be heard on weekdays at 9:30 am with that day's episode repeated at 9:15 pm. The week's readings are repeated from 12:00 midday to 2:30 pm on Saturday. The current and future morning book readings are as follows

The seige of Krishnapur was awarded the Booker Prize in 1973.
In 1857 when Indian troops in the nearby cantonment rise in revolt, the British community retreats in shock and confusion to the Residency of Krishnapur.
Behind makeshift barricades and lead by the Collector, Mr Hopkins, a firm believer in progress after attending the Great Exhibition in London, a motley collection of junior military officers, indigo planters and opium agents, fight for their lives.

Colin McPhedran was born in Burma, the youngest child of a Scottish oil company employee and an educated and well-connected Burmese lady.
After an idyllic childhood in a beautiful hill station, Colin was attending boarding school in Rangoon when the country was invaded in 1942. His mother decided to take Colin and his older brother and sister on the long and dangerous treck to safety in India.
Eleven year old Colin was the only survivor of the family. He was rescued, close to death from exhaustion near the Indian border.
After a lonely existence in bording school in India, Colin felt unsettled and estranged when he joined his father in England. He found a true sense of belonging in a country town in New South Wales.

Catherine Bradfeld grew up on an isolated farm in Yorkshire, except for time at boarding school. After the death of her parents, she found herself with very little money to indulge her thrist for travel, so she dicided to combine travel with paid work.
Her first job was with a Jewish family in Germany in th elate 30's, followed by war service in England, India and Singapore. In the post war period she took hotel work in Switzerland, New Zealand and Australia, before finally settling in Canberra.
Catherine's story of her unusual experiences and of the people she met in her travels is told in a lively manner and with great humour.

A book for young adults.
The story is set in 1860. Scattered across the Great Pelagic Ocean are chains of tiny islands. On one island lives a boy called Mau who has almost completed his ritual ordeal to become a man.
Aboard the schooner Sweet Joy, Ermintrude Fanshaw sails to rejoin her father at Port Mercia. An erupting volcano sets off an enormous tsunami. Only Mau and Ermintrude remain alive. Mau, who regards himself as without a soul, is driven to rebuild his country.
